Finding the best domain registrar for yourself isn’t an easy task. There are a number factors involved and what may be the best registrar for me or your friend may not be the same for your needs.

However, some registrars just stand head and shoulders above others by providing a reliable and affordable service. I’ve compiled my list of the Top 3 Domain Name Registrars which can provide a good balance between customer service, reliability, features and value for money.

These are my personal favourites and they all come highly recommended.

#1. NameCheap.com

I’ve been using NameCheap for the last 3 years and have over 100 domains there. I’ve found the control panel is full of features yet easy to navigate. In fact navigation around the whole site is very easy and fast. More importantly though is the customer service and pricing. Both are excellent. Whenever I’ve had problems with anything, I’ve been able to contact support and get a response within an hour or two.

Domain registration prices aren’t the cheapest around, dot com’s priced at $9.99 sounds quite steep, but you have to keep in mind each domain comes with free privacy protection - which some registrars charge $5+ for.

You can use various methods of payment including credit cards, paypal and google checkout.

#2. DynaDot.com

I love DynaDot, it was a close call between NameCheap and DynaDot for first position… in the end I only gave DynaDot a 2nd placing because I’ve been using them extensively for just under a year. Saying that I’ve been extremely impressed with the features and ease of use of their control panel. Pricing is also good. To start with its around $10.50 per .com domain, however once you’ve spent more than $500 within a year - you get domains at a discounted $7.50 each

You don’t get free privacy protection, it costs an additional $1.99 per domain. If this is an important feature for you and you register lots of domains that you wanted private… I’d suggest using one of the other registrars.

The best feature for me at DynaDot is the ability to get refunds on domains within a 118 hour grace period. This applies to most domain extensions, but excludes .co.uk and a few other extension. Its a great feature if you are a domainer. I’ve registered domains late in the night which I regret the next day… luckily with DynaDot I can delete the domains and get a refund within 5 days.

#3. GoDaddy.com

I also frequently use the following two registrars, they fall just behind the 3rd spot, but only just. I’ve got a whole heap of renewals due soon - around 400 domains… so that will give me a good chance to test out some new registrars and transfers. Keep your eyes peeled for the reviews coming soon.
